Robert Brickell
Robert V. Brickell December 17, 1927 - October 29, 2011 Robert Brickell, age 83, died October 29th, 2011 at Raleigh Health and Rehabilitation Center. Bob was born December 17, 1927 at St. Pauls Hospital in Dallas, Texas. He was son of the late Vreeland and Louise Brickell. Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Corrine S. Brickell and grandson, Robert Turner Brickell. He is survived by his sister, Linda Knapp, SantŽ Fe New, Mexico; children, Kimberly Kee of Southaven, MS; Jenny Berry of Raleigh, NC; David Brickell of Clayton, NC and Kate Brickell of Raleigh; stepsons, Kurt Newman, Washington, DC; Jon Newman, Berkley, CA, and Eric Newman of Seattle, WA; grandchildren, David Brickell (Beau) of Clayton; Katie Brickell of Clayton; Wyatt Brickell of Clayton; Jennifer Degan of Lake Horn, MS, and great-grandchildren, Lauren and Kirsten Degan of Lake Horn. Bob was well educated receiving his undergraduate and Masters Degree at the University of Mississippi. He also attended graduate programs at Harvard and Duke Universities. In 1950 Bob applied and was accepted into the Air Force as an airborne radar observer in the all-weather fighters. Bob received his training at Connally AFB, Waco, Texas. He received his wings and commission as a second lieutenant in April of 1952. Bob loved and supported the arts. Early in his career he was the first Director of the North Carolina Arts Council and later served as the Vice President and General Manager for the Ballet West, Cleveland, and Boston Ballets. In addition to managing the various ballet companies, Bob was active in local theater and won multiple acting awards for his performances. In the early 80's Bob and his wife Corrine relocated to Telluride, Colorado and later to Fruita, CO. After the death of his wife in August of 2011, Bob relocated back to Raleigh NC.--from legacy.com. Bob Brickell worked as a news director for KOTO Radio, in Telluride, Colorado, in the 1980's. Picture is with Ashley Montague, in the 1980's.
