According to rancher Donald "Don" Rogers, Butch Cassidy and the Wild Bunch would sometimes come through his father’s ranchland on Pinon Mesa on their way to their hideout at Robber’s Roost. Rogers says that Cassidy and the others were always polite when they sat down to eat, and that Rogers’s mother, Anna (Bowman) Rogers, would always find a gold piece under Cassidy’s plate when she was cleaning up after the meal. According to Minnie Rasmussen, who was born and raised in Browns Park, Cassidy had his hideout nearby, and she was an acquaintance of his. She describes him as gentle with animals and kind to her family. Her father, Charlie, would send a messenger ahead to his hideout when lawmen approached.
