Third generation Coloradan who began writing first for the Denver Post in 1928. Author of the Bancroft Booklets on Colorado History. Obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Smith College and later a Master of arts from the University of Denver.

Caroline Stephens

Taken from obituary: "Caroline Hildebrand Stephens was born in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, April 15, 1872, the youngest of eleven children born to Saran Raulin and John Hildebrand. In 1901, she accompanied a friend to Colorado and during her visit met and married Henry Stephens at Gypsum in February, 1903, and moved to the Stephens Ranch on Sweetwater, where the family figured prominently in community development. Mr. Stephens had beef a rancher in the Sweetwater area since 1898, passing away in 1936. Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Stephens, Clarence P-, James E and Martha, who died at the age of nine years. Mrs. Stephens had been living in Glenwood during the summers and for the past few winters had gone to Phoenix, Arizona, where she died last week. Her body was flown to Glenwood Friday and services were held In Gvpsum February 16 by Rev. Delbert Paulson of the Gypsum and Eagle Methodist churches. Interment was in Glenwood. Surviving her are her two sons Clarence and James, both of Sweetwater; four grandchildren, Marcia Bershenyi and Ella Stephens of ’ Glenwood; James. Jr and Bill of Sweetwater and several nieces and nephews in Ohio and lowa."
