He ran a restaurant on Bridge Street in Hotchkiss, Colorado. It was a short order restaurant that sold things like pork chops, steaks and hamburgers. He had moved to Hotchkiss from one of the plains states. He wanted to get out the restaurant business and so it to Emily (Young) Johnson. The Johnson family lived in the apartment above the restaurant.
Operator or foreman of the S-Cross Ranch on Pinon Mesa around 1908. He enjoyed reading and was accidentally shot through the leg one day while reading in his home. He later had his own ranch on Coates Creek.
According to cowboy and rancher Joe Carns, who knew Parks, Parks was run off from his Coates Creek ranch by the Sieber family.
He was an early resident of Palisade, Colorado. He moved with his wife and family from Indiana in the 1900’s. They traveled by train, intending to move to Oregon where he would take a teaching position, but were persuaded instead to purchase a peach orchard in Palisade. The orchard was small enough for the family to work it themselves. He was an early member of the Mt. Lincoln School Board, and was the primary party responsible for the construction of Mt. Lincoln High School. His wife was Mattie (Cobleny) Roe.
