John Mundlein

John Mundlein, Civil War veteran, was born in Stanton, Virginia, and after serving under Jackson and Lee, he moved to Denver with an ox team. In 1867, he went to Cash (now Cache; near Granite) Creek and set up a blacksmith shop. He lived in Granite for a time and was sheriff of Lake County, Colorado. In 1880, he set up his ranch in Chaffee County and was county commissioner for two terms.

He homesteaded in Escalante Canyon in Delta County, Colorado in 1885. He began a cattle ranch called the LMJ Ranch in 1885. There, he built log cabins that the family continued to live in for many years. Father of Kelso "Kel" Musser.

John Nichols

He started the Cameo Mine, near present-day Cameo, in 1885. According to presenters at the Panel Discussion on the History of Palisade and Cameo Mining in 1982, Nichols settled in the Fruita area with his family in 1882. After establishing the Cameo Mine, he later established coal mines near Fruita.
