- He was one of the founders of the Mesa County Sheriff Posse. He was an active trail rider. He also worked to organize the Colorado Stampede, a local rodeo. Also, he was a veterinarian who ran Pavetti's Animal Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado.

- Louisa Madden
- A Sister of Charity. She left Leavenworth, Kansas for Grand Junction, Colorado in July 1895 to establish St. Mary’s Hospital. She was the primary person responsible for fundraising for the project. She traveled all through Grand Junction and the surrounding counties asking for donations for the hospital. She visited mining camps in Ouray, Telluride and elsewhere. At times she stayed with Catholic families. Other times she stayed in a tent and was given food and money by miners.
