Mabyl Laverne (Righdenour) Chapman

She was born in Fonda, Iowa to Saul Daniel Righdenour and Ida Righdenour. Her father was a grain dealer and railroad worker. Her mother was a homemaker. The family moved to Green River, Utah and later to Fruita, Colorado. The 1910 US Census shows Mabyl living with her parents in Green River at the age of fifteen.
She was educated at the Gunnison Normal School (Colorado Western University), where she majored in the Kindergarten and Primary grades. The 1920 US census shows her living in Fruita with her parents at the age of 25, with her occupation listed as teacher.
She married William E. Chapman on February 10, 1928. They lived in Grand Junciton. She founded the first private kindergarten, Chapman Kindergarten, in Grand Junction in 1931. The business operated out of a home at 755 Ouray Avenue during a time when kindergarten was not offered in public schools. She closed the school in 1947.
She died at the age of 96 and is buried in the Masonic Cemetery in Grand Junction.

Mack Aspinall

He was born in Ohio to William Aspinall and Amanda J. Aspinall. His father was a farmer and his mother was a homemaker. He married Jessie E. Norviel in Logan, Ohio in 1895. US Census records show them living with their children and farming in Zane, Ohio in 1900. The family purchased land on first street in Palisade, Colorado in 1904, where they farmed peaches. In one of his Oral History interviews, Wayne Aspinall once related a story where he convinced his father to take care of his family after he enlisted in World War II at the age of 48, despite his Mack’s objections.
