Margaret Vandenburg

A native of Mesa County, Colorado and the daughter of the Grand Junction chief of police. She attended Mesa County Schools and began her teaching career directly after high school. In 1925, she became the teacher of the younger grades in the Star School near Fruita. She went on to teach the 5th grade at the Emerson School. She then married a man named Roy Vandenburg and left teaching for a time. After the accidental death of her husband, she returned to teaching and retired some time later.

Margaret Youmans

Born in Durango in 1899, lived in Pagosa Springs, Gate View (the Lake Fork) and Lake City, where her parents worked in mining. Married Grant Youmans in May of 1931, and had three children with him; Marian Ashwood, Joe of Powderhorn, and Helen of Dodge City, Kansas. She also had three daughters from a previous marriage; Ruth Wallace of Capitol Reef, Utah, Jane Bishop of Homer, Alaska, and Betty Hillsinger of Tuscon, Arizona. Marge Large

Marjorie Large was born in Denver, Colorado on March 25, 1930. She served in the USMC from 1956 to 1959 and was known as ‘Sarge’ Marge Large. Her duty assignment was at Quantico, Virginia, processing field reconnaissance photographs. After her military service she worked in banking, primarily doing photographic services. She opened a photo business in Denver with her husband.
Her grandfather George W. Smith was a member of the Colorado regiment of the 115th Engineer’s Train and trained in Camp Kearny, California.
Marge Large died on May 9, 2015.
