- Mark Powers
- A homesteader on California Mesa in Delta County who shot and killed Charles Bear in an altercation over water that Bear was diverting from Powers' ditch in 1890. A lynch mob from Delta County assembled, determined to kill Powers. So Judge C. Bell mobilized deputies to protect Powers and get him out of town. Powers was then taken from the Montrose County Jail to Ford Crawford. Bell eventually presided over Powers' trial, where he was convicted of murder and sentenced to death.
