Pavia Justinian
-
Pavia Justinian was the eighth Artist in Residence at Mesa County Libraries at 970West Studio. She served as the Artist in Residence from August 20 to December 3, 2018.
Pavia Justinian is a Colorado mixed media sculptor and muralist with award-winning artwork featured in public art programs throughout the state. Her works are held in private collections across the Southwest. Pavia is an acclaimed artist in the Grand Valley, having been featured in radio and print publications, commissioned work for the City of Grand Junction, and participated in numerous exhibits, including Art On The Corner, where her sculpture “Sigma” won Best in Show in 2017 and sculpture “Felicia” won People’s Choice in 2019. In college, Pavia apprenticed with the show’s founder, sculptor Dave Davis, and had the rare opportunity to develop under his tutelage. This connection is perhaps most evident in her use of unusual and novel media - including salvaged chrome, rusted old parts, and cement. Pavia builds colorful sculptures with painted concrete and epoxy, scrap metal, mosaic glass, polished stones and found objects. Pavia’s murals are as colorful as her sculptures, and she has painted her way across the Valley, from Palisade to Fruita. Pavia cherishes Colorado’s natural beauty and is inspired every day by the vivid mountain sunsets and the rich desert reds near her home. She believes in the capacity of art to positively impact the community and strives to expand the presence of artists throughout the Western Slope.
