Ralph L. Carr
He was the governor of Colorado from 1939-43. During World War II, he opposed the internment of Japanese Americans, including those brought to Amache from other states, and refused to comply with a Federal order to intern the Japanese-American residents of Colorado. This led to a decline in his political career. Today, a statue in Denver's Sukera Square is dedicated in his honor, and he is commemorated in the Japanese American community. *Public domain photograph from the Library of Congress.
