Lillie Bastien talks about her youth on a homestead in the Indian Territory of Oklahoma. She recalls life as a family of sharecroppers, her schooling, dolls made from corn cobs, and farm chores. She speaks about her husband, George Bastien. She sings the folk songs “The Midnight Express,” “Mother’s Bible,” and “You’re a Wonderful Mother, Wonderful Mother of Mine.” She recites the poems “I love you, Mother,” and “The Wise Old Owl.” She tells the story of her family’s trip in a covered wagon to a homestead in Choctaw County.
