<marmot:placeNotes>The first road to Pinon Mesa and Glade Park in Mesa County, Colorado. According to the December 9, 1882 edition of the Grand Junction News, Mr. John S. Gordon obtained a charter to build a toll road "to extend southeast from [Grand Junction], over Pinon Mesa, a distance of thirty miles." The April 7, 1883 edition of the News announced that the toll road had opened, and that it extended to sawmills on Pinon Mesa. The Old Gordon Trail on the Colorado National Monument follows part of the old route.

Gordon, who arrived in the Grand Valley from California with his ranching family in 1881, also built and operated Gordon's Ferry, which provided the first crossing over the Grand River at the confluence with the Gunnison. His toll road extended from ferry to Pinon Mesa.</marmot:placeNotes>
