<marmot:placeNotes>The Pomona School first opened at 25 and F ½ Roads in the 1900’s. It was part of Pomona School District 32, formed in 1896, and built on land donated by Ed Currier Sr. It was a large building with two classrooms on the main floor. The 1st through 5th grades attended school in the smaller room, and the 6th through 8th grades in the larger room. The school was also used by community groups such as the Farmer’s Union and the Red Cross.

While Pomona was overcrowded in 1911, a North Pomona School, located on G Road just east of 24 Road, took students who lived west of 25 Road. North Pomona closed after just one year, when the Pomona School District consolidated with the newly formed Appleton School District 39 in 1912.

According to Edith (Huffer) Sisac, who attended the school from around 1926 to 1935, the school expanded from eight grades to ten in 1934, when she was a freshman. At that time, the school had three rooms, but expanded with a cottage to accommodate the additional grades. Grades 11 and 12 went to Grand Junction High School.

The main Pomona School stayed open until 1957, when a new Pomona Elementary School opened at 588 25 ½ Road.
