<marmot:placeNotes>According to the Mesa County Assessor's office, the Stockmen's Bank Building was constructed in 1910. According to oral history interviewee Loudene Humeston, the building originally housed a store and an undertaking parlor run by a man named Underhill. Fred and Frank Tanner purchased the Tanner Bank, which became the Stockmen's Bank upon its sale.

According to oral history interviewee Walter “Dick” Lloyd, who sometimes relied on loans from the bank for his ranching business, it was run by Tom McKelvie before management was transferred to Mr. Porter and Mrs. Raber. The bank offered loans to struggling ranchers on the Grand Mesa and in Plateau Valley. Mr. Lloyd, who once received a $50 loan from the bank, states in his oral history interview that McKelvie “supported the whole valley, he kept everybody going… through the bank.”

Upon the Stockmen's Bank's closure, the building was subdivided into stores. Dr. Ziegel purchased the building, and as of Miss Humeston's interview in 1980, it had been renovated to contain 5 apartments. The Plateau Valley Friends of the Library purchased the building in 1991. Upon renovation, it became the new home of the Mesa County Libraries Collbran Branch.</marmot:placeNotes>
