It Was established as the Hunter Ranch in [1880?] by the parents of James "J. B." Baker Hunter. The settlement had its own school, the Hunter School, for many years (1895 to 1959). The school was the center of social life for the area. According to oral history interviewees, the Interurban, the one-time train between Fruita and Grand Junction, stopped in the Hunter District, making it possible for passengers to take the train to town, or to ship certain items. yes yes
