At one time, people from Mesa county flocked to the lake, where several cabins were located. According to oral history interviewee John Collier, it was "the place for people who had money. They'd go up there in buggies, and they had cabins around that lake that they had built." According to Marie (Corn) Tipping, whose great-grandfather ran an early sawmill on nearby East Creek, wealthy people from New York, Chicago, and other places back East stayed at Enochs Lake.
