<marmot:placeNotes>The original building was constructed in 1884. In 1889, five rooms were added. Students from all grades attended Lowell until 1891, when Franklin High School was built. A new Lowell School was built at 7th Street and Grand Avenue in 1926. The old Lowell School building housed the new Junior College of Grand Junction (now Colorado Mesa University) from 1925-39.
After that, a variety of agencies used the building. It housed the Mesa County Public Library, and Works Progress Administration classes.
