<marmot:placeNotes>A blond brick building constructed in 1912, with eight classrooms added by the WPA in 1935. It was known at first as the Central School (not to be confused with what had been referred to as Fruita Central High School, which operated in the red brick Fruita Central Building from 1890 to 1904). The school's additions were funded by fire insurance money from the destruction of the first Fruita Union High School building in 1934.

The Central School held the 1st through 8th grades. It was renamed Fruita Elementary School when Fruita School District #2 became part of Mesa County Valley School District #51 in 1951. Grades 7-8 were transferred when Fruita Junior High School was completed in 1955. With the construction of Shelledy Elementary School, grades K-2 were transferred, leaving only grades 3-6 at Fruita Elementary. The school operated until 1982. The building remains and has been renovated.
