According to oral history interviewees Walter "Dick" Lloyd (who ranched near Mesa) and Bertha (Robinson) Lloyd (who was born and raised in Mesa), the town in the early 1900's had two grocery stores, a post office, a hotel, a pool hall, a saloon, a restaurant, two churches, and a liquor store. In 1928, the voting district had a population of 100. Mesa held an annual rodeo, organized in part by the Lloyds, from the 1930's through the 1950's.
