<marmot:placeNotes>The Mile-Away dance hall was on the road to Fruita, an exact mile away from Grand Junction, located west of First Street and Patterson Road. It hosted Benny Goodman early on in his career, and many other musical acts. It may have been run by the mother and son team of Cora and Fern Sadler, after Sadler's release from prison for the murder of gambling parlor owner J.W. "Big Kid" Eames. According to oral history interviewee and Grand Junction police officer Fritz Becker, the Sadler's ran the Copeco Dance Hall in the 1930's.</marmot:placeNotes>
