The Country Club experienced financial difficulties during the Great Depression and sold the property to the Redlands Women's Club for $5,000. The first meeting of the Redlands Women's Club in the building took place February 10th, 1937. During the Depression, the building hosted community classes funded by the WPA, including dance lessons. William Rump, whose father Charles Rump was a primary force behind the development of the Redlands and the Community Center, had this information about its history: “Dad, Clyde Biggs, Clarence Kurtz, D. H. Munro, John Frydell, Tom Copeland, and about twelve or thirteen men built that as a country club, with the golf course extending up on top, clear back where Robbie has his place now. It was all dirt fairways and sand greens. And somewhere else, in somebody else’s report, they indicated that the Redlands people bought that whole project, or at least the building. I thought that Dad had given it to them but it was then when the Redlands women bought the clubhouse (it was a corporate name, or clubhouse name) for eight thousand dollars, I believe.” yes yes
