The original Lincoln Orchard Mesa School had been at 2914 B ½ Road, a one room school open between 1895-1900. According to Albert and Terry LaSalle in their book In the Beginning… A History of the Districts and Schools that became Mesa County Valley School District Number 51, the second school was a one-room school house, with the belfry converted into a classroom in 1937 when the school became overcrowded. However, in her oral history interview, teacher Ruth Larson recalls the school having two rooms, and the school not having enough children to fill it. According to the LaSalles, a lean-to was added to the outside of the building, and first and second graders attended school in an empty room in the janitor’s house next to the school after 1937. High School students began attending the school in 1917, and went there until 1945. The WPA built a new school on the same site in 1941. This building was used until 1990, when it was replaced by a more modern building. When Lincoln School District 29 became financially insolvent in 1948, it consolidated with Grand Junction School District 1, and became part of Mesa County School District 51 in 1949. yes yes
