<marmot:placeNotes>The Rhone School was located in what was then the town of Rhone, Colorado, a town four miles east of Fruita on 20 Road. The two room school house opened in 1895, and served grades 1-8. It had a large and melodious bell that could be heard for miles around. The school competed wtih the Hunter, Star and Loma Schools in ciphering matches and spell downs. The school was also used as a Sunday school, for church services, local elections, and social events. The Rhone School was administered by the Rhone School District 7 until 1904, when it merged with surrounding districts to form the Fruita Union School District. A new school was built in 1950, but shortly after, the Union School District became part of the Mesa County Valley School District 51. Parents voiced a preference to send their kids to the Fruita and Hunter Schools, and the school was closed in 1955.
