<marmot:placeNotes>A hotel and resort that was run by Roy Raymond Sisac and Ida (Foster) Sisac on the Mesa Lakes area of the Grand Mesa in Colorado. The resort operated from at least 1930 and into the 1940's.

According to Edith (Huffer) Sisac, who married into the Sisac family and became involved in the ski business, the resort was originally started by Roy Raymond Sisac and his brother-in-law, Lyle Foster. Both Roy and Lyle had grown up in the nearby town of Mesa. US Census records show that the Sisacs had purchased a “pleasure resort” by at least 1930, indicating that the Mesa Lakes Resort was open by this time.

According to Sisac, the resort had 25 cabins. When first constructed, the cabins had canvas roofs. The canvas was eventually replaced with galvanized sheet metal.

The resort had ice skating during years when the lake was full enough. Beginning in 1938, the Sisacs would let water flood Beaver Lake and overspill the banks. The water would then freeze for ice skating.

Also around 1938, Edith and Roy took over the management of the resort. They kept it open during the winter in order to cater to skiers at the Grand Mesa's first ski area, the Mesa Lakes Ski Run (which the Sisacs and Fosters also owned).

The resort had a pet bear named Coco for three years. The bear was friendly with staff and the Sisac family, but could be aggressive to others. It was let go near where it hibernated in Mesa, and eventually stayed away after Russel Sisac shot his gun in the air to scare it.

The Sisac's son and wife, Russel Roy "Russ" Sisac, opened a brand new Mesa Lakes Resort with his wife Edith Marie (Huffer) Sisac in 1954.</marmot:placeNotes>
