Established in 1906, Valley Federal was first at 444 Main Street and later on 7th Street and Rood Avenue. After outgrowing its location on 7th and Rood, it decided to build the Federal Savings and Loan building on 5th Street and Rood. First, though, it had to buy the lots between 4th and 5th Street and Rood and White Avenues. Then it had to demolish the old YMCA building, which was on the property.
