<marmot:placeNotes>The first elementary school established in the Clifton area, built in 1907 as a part of Clifton School District Number 37. At one time, it housed grades 1-8. When the building was first constructed, it had four rooms. Each teacher taught two grades. The principal was E.G. Moulton. According to Oscar Winfield Jaynes Jr., who attended Clifton in the 1910’s, Moulton took note of any bad blood that existed between boys on the playground, and on father/son day, he had boys don boxing gloves and fight each other. The elementary school has had a succession of buildings, with each located on or near the same spot at 3276 F Road. From 1941-1946, an adobe building built by the WPA housed what was called Clifton High School. When the Clifton School District consolidated with Mesa County Schools, the high school students were sent to Central High School, and the building housed elementary and junior high school students.
