Majestic Theater, Grand Junction, Colorado [1910] 538 Main Street Grand Junction Mesa Colorado 81501 USA It was constructed by Samuel Winterburn, a contractor and carpenter who built other important Mesa County buildings. According to local historian Don MacKendrick, the theater was set on the land previously occupied by the Opera Rink, Grand Junction's first performance and event space. Located at 538 Main Street, the old Majestic Theater building is now occupied by the Mesa Theater. It has been through many different renovations over the years. In the 1910's, it offered penny matinees, where kids from local schools crowded the theater to watch silent serials starring Pearl White and others for a penny. MacKendrick states that the Majestic had its own orchestra, which served as a soundtrack to silent films. According to oral history interviewee Eugene Perry, the first talking picture to show in Grand Junction was The Cowboy. It showed at the Majestic Theater in 1926.
