Valley View School, Loma, Colorado [1895] Loma Mesa Colorado USA According to oral history interviewee Bertha Schlegel, it was a one room school house without plumbing. Students relied on well water. George Cecil Harper, who attended the school in the 1910’s, recalled that the building was about 14 x 20 feet and that it housed grades first through eighth. Viola Goddard was the teacher at that time. According to former Valley View teacher Ruth Mary Goss, the school building was once located south of the Colorado River. It was relocated in the early 1920's by Quince and Roger "Rog" Long, who moved the school over river ice. Lois (Long) Buniger, whose father and uncle moved the school, recalls that it was located in an area called Adams Bottom. The school was moved because of the distance children had to walk to school before the move. It was relocated to near what is now Highline Lake, North of the towns of Mack and Loma. At the time when Goss worked at the school, from 1923 to 1926, only 1st through 4th grades were taught there and the 5th and 6th grades were taken to the Loma School by bus.
