Houston Hall, Colorado Mesa University, Grand Junction, Colorado 1937 1100 North Avenue Grand Junction Mesa Colorado 81501 USA In 1937, the Grand Junction Junior College was given a federal grant. With money from the grant they built Houston Hall, the first building on its new campus. Construction of the hall allowed the college to move from the old Lowell School building, which was dilapidated and had become overcrowded. The move coincided with the college’s name change to Mesa College. The building had a multi-purpose gymnasium and auditorium, along with classrooms and offices. The gymnasium was later converted to double-decker classrooms. The hall is named for former CMU president Clifford Houston. For a time, Houston Hall's auditorium was the largest in town and hosted some concerts that other venues could not support. Marie Treece, who ran Grand Junction's community concert series, held the concert of African-American singer Roland Hayes there. yes yes
