Migrant labor camp, Palisade, Colorado 1962 Palisade Mesa Colorado USA A camp of migrant laborers that resided along the Colorado River in the mid-Twentieth century. It consisted primarily of immigrants from Mexico and people from Colorado’s San Luis Valley. In the 1950’s, migrants were assisted by social workers, and the migrant school in Palisade brought children in for classes, breakfast and milk. According to one of the cofounders of the migrant school, Dorothy (Martin) Tindall, the migrant population was greatly diminished following a hard freeze that killed most of the fruit crops in 1962. For a time after that, Fruita had a larger migrant camp, owing to the prevalence of sugar beets as a cash crop. yes yes
