<marmot:placeNotes>The second and current location of St. Mary's Hospital. According to Winifred Bull, the land now occupied by the hospital was once a dirt track used by her father and others for horse racing. Previously, the hospital resided at 1129 Colorado Avenue.

In 1945, efforts to remodel the hospital’s existing building were undertaken by the Sisters of Charity. Instead, the Chamber of Commerce, local businesspeople, and Mesa College urged the Sisters to instead build an entirely new building. Land was given by the college to the hospital at 7th Street and Patterson, then outside the city, and construction began. The hospital opened on April 2, 1951.

By 1958, the hospital was already overcrowded due to the growth of Grand Junction. Robert Irwin was hired as an architect to expand the building with 20 more beds, and larger x-ray, emergency, and clinical and pathology departments. The new hospital wing was dedicated on February 12, 1961. In 1966, the 4th floor was renovated, freeing up more beds for surgery. In 1968, a radiotherapy unit was added. In 1971, another new wing was added. It housed emergency, outpatient services, a surgery suite and a laboratory.

The hospital has gone through significant renovations and expansions since that time and continues to serve the people of Grand Junction, the Western Slope, and Eastern Utah.</marmot:placeNotes>
