First Church of the Nazarene (first location), Grand Junction, Colorado 1920 1937 725 Rood Avenue Grand Junction Mesa Colorado 81501 USA According to David Sundal, whose father Olaf Sundal was the church’s clergyman from 1930 to 1969, the First Church of the Nazarene organized around 1920 and built its first church in the 700 block of Rood Avenue. Sundal described the church as a short, squat, unattractive building. A curtain had to be used inside of the church if congregants wanted to hold more than one event at a time. Olaf Sundal oversaw the digging of a basement that could be used as a lunchroom, and the construction of a frame building in the back. The church was most likely located at 725 Rood Avenue in a building that still stands. The Mesa County Assessor records show that the building was created in 1920, and that it contains a full, finished basement. yes yes
