Johnson School, Montrose, Colorado South Main Street Montrose Montrose Colorado USA A school located on South Main Street in Montrose that taught grades one through six. According to oral history interviewee Don Burgess, who attended the school in the 1930’s, it was a two-story building with approximately twelve rooms. Miss Day, known as a “rough teacher” because she sometimes held back students who did not achieve expectations academically, was a teacher at the school when Burgess attended in the 1930’s. The building was apparently torn down around 1980. The Johnson School, now known as Johnson Elementary School, still exists as an institution of learning in the Montrose County School District as of 2024, though it is now housed in a building at 13820 6700 Road. yes yes Johnson Elementary School
