According to the website of the Mesa County Sheriff's Department, the first jail in Grand Junction was built in 1882 and was located on the east side of 3rd Street, between Main Street and Colorado Avenue. According to Perry, the jail had one room and one bed. The building that was first used as the jailhouse was eventually moved to Lincoln Park and was used as a ticket booth and sandwich vending location. The second jail was a county-run facility that opened in 1883. It was located between 7th and 8th Streets on White Avenue.
