Johnson purchased greenhouses from the Arcieri family located at Struthers Avenue and 7th Street and opened a shop at 455 Main Street, where he stayed for two years. He then moved the greenhouses to 1350 North Avenue, where he also opened a storefront after purchasing the land from a man named Growner. An architect who worked for the Independent Lumber Company drew plans for the flower shop.
