<marmot:placeNotes>In 1973, the Grand Junction Junior High School building, constructed in 1926, was remodeled and turned into Columbine Elementary School. This transition was made possible by the construction of the new East and West Middle Schools. Downtown students from the Emerson and Lowell Schools were transferred to Columbine. The school remained open until 2007, when it was torn down and replaced by Chipeta Elementary School.</marmot:placeNotes>
