Teller Arms Shopping Center, Grand Junction, Colorado 1964 2401 North Avenue Grand Junction Mesa Colorado 81501 USA Built in 1964 on the land that used to house the Starlite Drive-In Theater at 2401 North Avenue. According to Cordelia Files, she and her husband Loyd Files spearheaded the development of the strip mall, the first one built in Western Colorado and the only one between Salt Lake City and Denver at that time. To make way for Teller Arms, they sold the Starlite in 1957. The theater was moved to 23 Road by the new owners. They endured much protest from the owners of Main Street business, but in the end, the shopping center was built. The strip mall had thirteen stores to open, including a Safeway grocery store and a drugstore. According to Files, it did not result in the lucrative business that they had envisioned, but was still profitable. It also opened the way for further development in the area.
