It was founded in 1931 by Mabyl Chapman. Chapman and her husband purchased the home at 755 Ouray Avenue. The Chapman’s lived in the home and had space for the school. The dining and living room areas served as the school room. Each student had a cabinet and a shoe box with school supplies. The school emphasized creative play and become known for its Rhythm Band.
