<marmot:placeNotes>The second school in Grand Junction, built after the collapse of the first, shortly-lived frame building, was an adobe building located on Main Street between 7th and 8th Streets. It was built in 1882. Harrison Edward Stroud, a local pharmacist and president of the newly founded Grand Junction School District 1, raised funds for the construction of the new school.

On December 2, 1882, the Grand Junction News reported that Stroud had begun soliciting funds. The school was open and holding classes by December 16, 1882, when the News reported, “The school is held in Dr. Stroud’s adobe building between Main Street on 7th, and 8th, where they have nice comfortable quarters.” Isa Colwell from Kannah Creek was the teacher.

The building served the students of Grand Junction until 1884, when the first Lowell School opened.
