Brumbaugh Brothers grocery store, Fruita, Colorado 1919 1940 Fruita Mesa Colorado USA A grocery store run by David Brumbaugh and his brother William T. Brumbaugh, who was the postmaster of Fruita. It opened around 1919, when David Brumbaugh’s family returned from Lincoln, Nebraska. Prior to 1918, David and Elizabeth Brumbaugh had lived in Loma, where they ran the Loma Supply Company, a general store, hotel, and post office. David and William owned the Fruita store building. Carl Osborne’s hardware store was located next door. At one point, the store suffered a catastrophic fire, when all but some canned goods were lost. It moved to a nearby building, on Main Street, and reopened. Paul Elden Henry worked at the store as a sales and delivery person. He married Cora Brumbaugh, David Brumbaugh’s daughter.
