In winter time, it was sometimes blocked off and the overflow allowed to freeze in the park so that the children could ice skate. According to Fred Simpson, a farmer active in irrigation concerns, the ditch wound from Lincoln Park, through north Grand Junction, wound around the base of First and Second Fruitridge and extended to Fruita. It was “watered” by the Independent Ranchman’s Ditch somewhere near where the Mesa Mall now stands. The ditch also continued east and south of Lincoln Park, through the Pear Park area. A ditch by that name still runs from east from 28 1/4 Road as of 2024. yes yes
