Ski and mountain clubs were very common in many communities. This picture reflects these mountain recreational clubs. The single pole evolved into two poles and were used to help directional changes, slowing down, and even getting up once one would fall. Most of the skis were very heavy and usually 8 to 10 feet long and the foot was secured by a basic strap or straps. It was not unusual for women to participate, even though this photo does not show it.
